Why is love considered the greatest virtue in Christian teaching?

Answered in 1 source

Love surpasses all other virtues in Christianity, as emphasized in 1 Corinthians 13.

In 1 Corinthians 13:13, the Apostle Paul concludes that faith, hope, and love abide, with the greatest being love. This highlights the eternal and paramount nature of love, distinguishing it from transient virtues. Love is fundamental to our relationships with God and others; Jesus Himself taught that love is the fulfilling of God's law. It is through love that believers are recognized as Christ's disciples (John 13:35). Thus, while faith and hope are essential, love binds them and embodies the character of Christ’s ministry.
