Why is love for brethren important for Christians?

In 1 John 3:14, we learn that loving our brethren is a clear indication that we have passed from death to life. This love is a hallmark of genuine Christianity, reflecting the character of Christ, who loved us first (1 John 4:19). As believers, our ability to love others stems from knowing God and understanding Christ's sacrificial love.
