Why is love for fellow believers important?

Answered in 1 source

Love for fellow believers is crucial as it is a distinguishing mark of true discipleship and reflects Christ's love for the church.

In John 13:35, Jesus states that love for one another is the mark by which all will know that we are His disciples. The church at Ephesus, while zealous for truth, was admonished for leaving their first love, which could refer to neglecting their love for each other. In times of persecution and trials, it is easy for churches to become inwardly focused and lose sight of the need to care for one another. True Christian love compels us to support and stand by our brothers and sisters, especially in their times of need (Matthew 25:40). Therefore, cultivating love within the church is essential for maintaining unity, encouragement, and the proper witness of Christ to the world.
