Why is love greater than faith and hope?

Answered in 1 source

Love is eternal and transcends both faith and hope, which will eventually cease.

In 1 Corinthians 13:13, Paul indicates that while faith, hope, and love are all essential components of the Christian life, love is the greatest. This is because love is eternal; it is the character of the Kingdom of God, and will continue in eternity, unlike faith and hope which have their fulfillment in eternal life. Faith, which is trust in God, will become sight when believers stand before Him. Similarly, hope pertains to the expectation of future grace and will be realized upon Christ's return. However, love, as the very nature of God, will endure forever, serving as the foundation for all relationships in the eschatological reality. Thus, love is paramount because it reflects God’s eternal purpose and bond among His people.
