Why is loyalty to Christ important for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Loyalty to Christ is vital as it aligns believers with God's kingdom and assures them of His protection and favor.

Loyalty to Christ is fundamental in the life of a believer, as it signifies allegiance to God's chosen king, similar to the loyalty that the men of Judah exhibited toward David. In 2 Samuel 20, we see that those who cleave to David were protected and upheld, while those who rebelled suffered dire consequences. This mirrors the Christian experience; loyalty to Christ ensures that one is under His grace and mercy, establishing a secure relationship with God. Jesus Himself indicated the necessity of loyalty when He asked His disciples if they, too, would leave Him, emphasizing the importance of recognizing His divine authority and the eternal implications of following Him (John 6:67-68). In this way, loyalty is not merely an act of allegiance but a reflection of a believer's relationship with Christ, which is foundational for their faith and assurance of salvation (Romans 8:38-39).
