Why is mercy important in salvation according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Mercy is crucial for salvation as it is through God's mercy that we are delivered from sin and despair.

Merely understanding salvation in theoretical terms is not sufficient; one must grasp its deeply personal nature rooted in God's mercy. In Psalm 86:5, David affirms that God is 'ready to forgive and plenteous in mercy' toward all who call upon Him. This underscores the idea that salvation stems not from our efforts but from God’s gracious and merciful actions. In salvation, it is God's mercy that rescues us from the consequences of sin, reflecting His desire for reconciliation. The New Testament is replete with calls for believers to recognize that it is the grace and mercy of God, manifested through Jesus Christ, that ensures our salvation and empowers us to live in a manner pleasing to Him (Ephesians 2:4-5). Without this mercy, humanity remains lost and without hope.
