Why is mortifying the deeds of the body important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Mortifying the deeds of the body is crucial for Christians as it aligns our lives with the Spirit and reflects our union with Christ.

Mortification, or the act of putting to death our sinful actions and desires, underscores the daily struggle against our flesh. Colossians 3:5 encourages believers to 'put to death' what is earthly in them. This is vital because it demonstrates our active participation in the sanctification process, which is the believer's response to God's grace. Walking in the Spirit requires believers to be vigilant against sin, recognizing its toxicity and destructive nature. This responsibility does not mean we rely on our strength but trust in the power of the Spirit to help us in our ongoing battle against sin as we continually look to Christ for strength and guidance.
