Why is personal faith important for assurance?

Answered in 1 source

Personal faith in Christ is critical as it forms the foundation for assurance of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Personal faith serves as the crucial element that undergirds our assurance of salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 asserts, 'For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.' This passage emphasizes that faith, which is a gift from God, is the means by which we grasp the assurance of His promises. Paul’s own conviction, expressed in 2 Timothy 1:12, reflects this truth as he knows whom he has believed and is assured of Christ’s ability to secure his salvation. The more one knows Christ intimately and personally, the greater the assurance that flows from that relationship. It is through personal faith and daily reliance on Christ that one finds peace regarding their eternal standing before God.
