Why is personal repentance important for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Personal repentance is essential as it signifies the individual's acknowledgment of sin and their need for God's mercy.

Personal repentance is a culminating act within the context of saving faith. While the Holy Spirit convicts and draws us, the act of repentance must come from the individual. This is critical because it demonstrates a heart transformed by the Holy Spirit, reflecting genuine understanding of one's sinful state and the necessity for divine forgiveness. Scripture emphasizes that there must be a personal acknowledgment and turning from sin (Luke 13:3). Without personal repentance, one cannot be said to be truly alive in Christ or to have received His grace.
