Why is pointing people to Christ important for preachers?

Answered in 1 source

Pointing people to Christ is essential because the gospel’s power lies in Christ, not in the preacher.

John the Baptist exemplified the role of a faithful preacher by consistently directing attention away from himself and towards Christ. In John 3:29-30, he declares, 'He must increase, but I must decrease,' recognizing that the effectiveness of his ministry depended wholly on the glory of Christ. This principle applies to all preachers; their task is not to magnify themselves but to exalt Christ. The reliance on Christ as the source of salvation is reinforced in 1 Corinthians 1-3, where Paul teaches that the power of the gospel hinges on who Christ is, and not on the eloquence or status of the preacher. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that preachers make Christ the center of their message, pointing sinners to the sole Savior.
