Why is prayer important in decision-making according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Prayer is vital in decision-making as it acknowledges our dependence on God's wisdom.

The failure of the Israelites to seek the Lord's guidance before making an alliance with the Gibeonites teaches a crucial lesson about the need for prayer in decision-making. Throughout Scripture, we see that God's people are encouraged to bring their decisions before Him, recognizing their inherent limitations and need for divine insight. In Joshua 9, the Israelites assumed they had enough knowledge and wisdom to proceed without the Lord’s direction, leading to a poor choice with lasting consequences. This highlights the arrogance that can arise when one believes they can navigate life's challenges independently of God's wisdom. Instead, believers are called to humbly pray and inquire of the Lord, trusting in His providence and understanding.
