Why is preaching about sin important for Christians?

Addressing sin in preaching is critical for a proper understanding of the gospel. The Word of God outlines the sinful condition of humanity, affirming that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Preaching about sin helps individuals recognize their need for a Savior and the grace of God that invites them to repent and believe. Without acknowledging sin, the believer cannot fully appreciate the depth of Christ’s sacrifice nor the grace offered through His death and resurrection. As Rolfe Barnard emphasized, if the gospel message is altered to downplay sin, it leads to a false sense of security instead of genuine repentance and reliance on Christ’s redemptive work.
