Why is preaching Christ central to the message of Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Preaching Christ is central because He is the embodiment of the Gospel, the fulfillment of the Scriptures, and the sole means of salvation.

In Acts 8:5 and following, Philip preached Christ to the people of Samaria. This highlights the mandate that believers proclaim Jesus as the fundamental message of Christianity. The entirety of Scripture points to Him, revealing Him as the Savior and the fulfillment of God's promises. Christ's death, resurrection, and the mystery of Him living in believers constitute the core of the Gospel. As Paul says in Colossians 1:27, Christ in you is the hope of glory, making His preaching essential for salvation and spiritual growth. Hence, any preaching that strays from Christ diminishes the power and truth of the Gospel.
