Why is preaching the gospel essential for worship?

Answered in 1 source

Preaching the gospel is essential for worship because it centers on the truth of Christ and is foundational for any true spiritual experience.

Preaching the gospel is vital to worship because it reveals the nature of God, humanity, and the salvation found in Jesus Christ. Without the gospel, any religious ceremony or form of worship becomes empty and lifeless, as true worship hinges on the knowledge of and faith in the Lord Jesus. As noted in John 4:24, believers are called to worship in spirit and truth, and the gospel encapsulates that truth. Moreover, the Apostle Paul declares in Romans 1:16 that the gospel is the power of God for salvation. Therefore, when the gospel is not preached, spiritual worship cannot take place, as there is no foundation upon which to build a true and meaningful relationship with God. The gospel not only invites us into worship but also shapes and directs our understanding of who God is and what He has done for us in Christ.
