Why is pretense before God considered folly?

Answered in 1 source

Pretense before God is folly because nothing is hidden from Him, and it leads to spiritual deception.

1 John 1:6-10 warns against the folly of pretense before God, indicating that claiming to have fellowship with Him while walking in darkness is self-deception. Since God is light, He sees all things as they truly are, and any effort to mask the reality of one’s sinful nature is ultimately futile. Such hypocrisy not only misrepresents one’s spiritual condition but also places individuals in danger of judgment, as they may falsely believe they are in right standing with God while being unrepentant and unaware of their true state.
