Why is pride a hindrance to salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Pride elevates self-righteousness, which God opposes according to scripture.

Pride is a significant barrier to salvation as it leads individuals to rely on their own works for righteousness, which the Bible condemns. Proverbs 16:5 states, 'Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.' The reliance on self leads to spiritual death, as seen through the examples of Cain, who approached God with the works of his hands rather than faith in God's provision. This illustrates that salvation requires humility and acknowledgment of our utter dependence on Christ's righteousness, not our own.
