Why is pride considered a serious sin in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Pride is a serious sin because it leads to self-reliance and separates us from God's grace (James 4:6).

Pride is considered a grave sin within Christianity because it is the root of many other sins and ultimately places individuals in opposition to God. Scripture explicitly states that God resists the proud, indicating that pride not only alienates us from His grace but also leads to shame and eventual destruction (Proverbs 16:18). Throughout biblical history, pride has consistently led to downfall; from the fall of Satan to humanity's original sin through Adam and Eve, pride is the driving force that causes spiritual ruin. Conversely, humility opens the door to repentance and reconciliation with God, showing that recognizing our limitations and dependence on Him is essential for spiritual health.
