Why is pride considered the root of all sin?

Answered in 1 source

Pride is seen as the root of all sin because it leads to rebellion against God's authority and the elevation of self above others.

Pride is described as the root of all sin because it fundamentally opposes the recognition of God’s sovereignty and promotes self-elevation. As stated in the sermon, it was pride that caused Lucifer's fall and led Adam to sin in the Garden of Eden. By prioritizing self over divine authority, pride birthed heresies that distort the truth of salvation and relationship with God. Essentially, when individuals uphold their judgments and wisdom over God's revelations, they open the door to various forms of sin and deviation from the truth presented in Scripture. It creates a barrier to humility and the acceptance of God’s grace.
