Why is pursuing sensual pleasure harmful?

Answered in 1 source

Pursuing sensual pleasure is harmful as it defiles the soul and distracts from true fulfillment found in God.

Sensual pleasures can seem enticing but ultimately lead to spiritual ruin and dissatisfaction. As stated in the sermon, they only provide a fleeting sense of enjoyment, described as mere clouds in their enjoyment, while leaving a 'sting' of regret afterward. The nature of these pleasures is not substantial; they can neither satisfy the heart nor fill the longing soul. By succumbing to these pleasures, one risks losing the eternal joys that God has prepared for those who live according to His purposes.
