Why is recognizing mankind's sinfulness important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Recognizing our sinfulness is vital for understanding our need for God's mercy and grace.

Acknowledging our sinfulness allows Christians to fully appreciate the grace of God in Christ. Without recognizing our state of spiritual deadness, we cannot grasp the magnitude of God's love as expressed in Romans 5:8, which teaches us that Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. This realization fosters humility and gratitude, as we understand that deliverance from sin is not by our merits but solely through the work of Christ. Additionally, it compels Christians to rely on God’s daily strength and forgiveness, reminding us that we are continually in need of His mercy and that apart from Him, we remain in our sinful condition.
