Why is recognizing our need for a substitute important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Recognizing our need for a substitute humbles us and magnifies the grace of God in our salvation.

Understanding our sinfulness and the need for a substitute brings us to a place of humility, allowing us to appreciate the grace that has been afforded to us in Christ. As stated in the sermon, we are prone to self-righteousness and often forget the depths of our sin. When we see our need, like David in Psalm 69, we can genuinely seek the grace of God. This recognition leads to true repentance, resting not on our feelings but on the fact that Christ has paid the penalty for our sin, affirming that our salvation is wholly reliant on His work, not our own.
