Why is reconciliation necessary according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Reconciliation is necessary because of God's holiness and our sinfulness, which creates a separation between us and Him (Isaiah 59:2).

The necessity of reconciliation stems from God's perfect holiness and our inherent sinfulness. As Isaiah 59:2 states, our iniquities have separated us from God. His holiness means that He cannot overlook sin; He must punish it. This divine attribute underscores the severity of our condition: born into this world as enemies of God, we are incapable of restoring that broken relationship on our own. Reconciliation becomes essential because it addresses the chasm created by our rebellion against a holy God. It is only through the redemptive work of Christ that we can be restored to fellowship with the Father.
