Why is refraining from evil speech important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Refraining from evil speech helps maintain unity and reflects the character of Christ.

According to 1 Peter 3:9-10, Christians are instructed not to repay evil for evil or insult for insult, but instead to bless others. This is critical in preserving the unity of the church and in demonstrating the power of God’s grace in our lives. Our speech should reflect Christ, who is described as full of grace and truth (John 1:14). By taming our tongues and speaking life, as encouraged in Proverbs, we not only protect our witness but also contribute to the relational health of the body of Christ.
