Why is regeneration important in the Christian faith?

Answered in 1 source

Regeneration is crucial because it signifies a complete transformation, enabling believers to have a new heart and nature that desires to please God.

Regeneration is the divine act of God whereby He imparts spiritual life to a believer, making them a new creation. This transformation is described in John 1:12-13, emphasizing that it is not derived from human will or effort but is entirely the work of God's power. As a result of this regeneration, the old nature, which is corrupt and sinful, no longer governs the believer. Instead, they receive a new heart, as promised in Ezekiel 36:26, allowing them to have new desires that align with God's will. Therefore, regeneration is not just a change but a complete overhaul of a person's spiritual state.
