Why is regeneration necessary for understanding God's word?

Answered in 1 source

Regeneration is essential because it transforms a person's nature, enabling them to comprehend spiritual truths revealed by God.

Regeneration is the act of the Holy Spirit that creates a new heart and mind within believers, allowing them to perceive and accept spiritual truths. Without this transformation, as highlighted in John 3:3, an individual remains blind to the kingdom of God and cannot understand the gospel. The natural, unregenerate man cannot receive spiritual things because they are spiritually discerned. Salvation and understanding are therefore acts of grace bestowed by God, indicating that comprehension of divine truth comes from a heart renewed by the Holy Spirit, as outlined in Ezekiel 36:25-27.
