Why is relying on Christ alone important for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Relying solely on Christ is essential because salvation is a gift granted by grace, and adding anything to it undermines the Gospel.

The importance of relying solely on Christ for salvation cannot be overstated. Paul warns in Colossians 2:8 to beware of any teaching that adds to Christ. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). Any attempt to include human effort or traditions, such as baptism or moral deeds, dilutes the Gospel and can lead to spiritual ruin. Christ is our only source of righteousness and sanctification, making Him essential for our salvation. As Paul teaches, it is through faith in Christ that we are declared righteous and complete.
