Why is relying on false refuges dangerous?

Answered in 1 source

Relying on false refuges leads to spiritual blindness and ultimately results in judgment from God.

Relying on false refuges, as discussed in Isaiah 28, is dangerous because it causes one to remain blind to the truth of God's righteousness and justice. The people of Jerusalem believed they could escape judgment through their lies and agreements, but God warned that their refuge would not withstand His judgment. Such reliance results in a false sense of security, leading individuals to ignore the true nature of their predicament before a holy God. The danger is that they will ultimately face the reality of God's judgment without the safety of a true refuge, which is found only in Christ—leaving them exposed and without hope.
