Why is relying on our obedience insufficient for salvation?
Answered in 1 source
Our obedience is flawed and inconsistent, making reliance on Christ’s sacrifice essential for salvation.
Relying on human obedience for salvation is insufficient because, as demonstrated by Abraham's journey, our actions are marked by flaws and inconsistencies. The Bible asserts that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Since our best efforts are tainted by sin, any reliance on our works leads to despair rather than hope. The only sure foundation for salvation is in the completed work of Christ, who bore our sins and satisfied the wrath of God. Hebrews 10:14 states, 'For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified,' which reinforces that it is Christ’s sacrifice alone that grants us justification and standing before God.
