Why is righteousness important for believers?

Answered in 1 source

Righteousness is essential because it defines a believer's standing before God and is found only in Christ.

Righteousness is critically important for believers as it represents their right standing before a holy God. However, the Scripture declares in Isaiah that our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, indicating that human attempts at righteousness fall short of God's standard. True righteousness can only be found in Christ, whose perfect life and sacrificial death provide the basis for our acceptance before God. When believers understand that their righteousness is not derived from their deeds, but is genuinely imputed from Christ, it transforms their worship and approach to God, leading them to rest solely on His grace.
