Why is self-judgment necessary for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Self-judgment is necessary as it leads to an awareness of our sin and the need for Christ’s saving grace.

Self-judgment is essential in the process of salvation because it unveils our true sinful nature before God. The scripture warns against self-righteousness, as found in the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9-14). Only by recognizing our unworthiness can we humbly come to Christ and seek His mercy. The deeper our conviction of our sin, the more clearly we see our need for a Savior. This act of self-judgment, driven by the Holy Spirit, is crucial as it precedes and prepares the heart for the reception of grace, ultimately leading to salvation.
