Why is self-righteousness a barrier to coming to Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Self-righteousness prevents individuals from seeing their need for Christ, keeping them from genuine faith.

In the sermon, it was highlighted that self-righteousness acts as a barrier to faith in Christ. Those who consider themselves morally adequate or spiritually self-sufficient do not perceive their need for a Savior. The Pharisees exemplified this attitude, rejecting Christ outright while focusing on their own perceived righteousness. This false sense of security leads individuals to dismiss the Gospel and remain blind to their need for God's mercy. Therefore, the realization of one's inadequacy and need for grace is essential for coming to Christ, as only those aware of their utter need will seek Him for true righteousness.
