Why is self-righteousness dangerous in the life of a believer?

Answered in 1 source

Self-righteousness leads to judgmental attitudes and can undermine genuine faith and love.

Self-righteousness is perilous because it fosters a critical spirit that presumes to judge others by human standards rather than embracing the grace given through Christ. The Bible warns against such tendencies, echoing Matthew 7:1-2, where Jesus cautions not to judge others unjustly, for we shall be judged by the same measure we use. This attitude was evident in the disciples when they were shocked to see Jesus speaking to the Samaritan woman. Their self-righteous tradition blinded them to the work of grace occurring before their eyes. Believers must remember that true faith is rooted in humility and compassion, steering clear of self-righteousness, which breeds suspicion and division.
