Why is showing partiality important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Showing partiality is detrimental as it contradicts the teachings of the gospel and promotes selfishness over genuine love for others.

For Christians, the issue of showing partiality is critical because it not only reveals the heart's sinful inclinations but also undermines the unity that should exist within the body of Christ. When believers exhibit favoritism towards certain individuals, they fail to adhere to the 'royal law,' which commands them to love their neighbors as themselves (James 2:8). This love is unconditional and should not depend upon the perceived benefits derived from someone’s social or economic status. Partiality distorts the true nature of community and fellowship that the church is to embody, causing division and strife, rather than love and harmony. Thus, upholding a biblical view of all individuals greatly enhances both personal faith and the corporate witness of the church.
