Why is spiritual effort important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Spiritual effort is vital for Christians as it reflects their responsibility and active participation in God's plan for their lives.

While salvation is by grace through faith and not of our works, the Christian life entails active engagement and effort. Scripture encourages believers to work out their salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12) and to strive against sin and temptation (Hebrews 12:1-2). This responsibility does not contradict divine grace; rather, it affirms that believers, empowered by the Holy Spirit, must actively pursue holiness and growth in their faith. The balance between divine sovereignty and human responsibility is crucial: God initiates and enables, but believers must respond and act upon His grace to realize the fullness of spiritual victory and enjoy their inheritance.
