Why is spiritual fruitfulness important for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Spiritual fruitfulness demonstrates the reality of our union with Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Spiritual fruitfulness is vital for Christians as it evidences their union with Christ and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit. As believers are united with Christ, they are called to bear fruit unto God, as mentioned in Romans 7:4. This fruitfulness reflects a life that is surrendered to Christ and is responsive to His Lordship. It is a manifestation of the new life that comes from being married to Christ rather than being enslaved to the law.

Moreover, fruitfulness is not merely about external actions; it encompasses the believer's inner transformation and alignment with God’s will. Believers who are in love with Christ will naturally produce fruit that glorifies Him and manifests the characteristics of the Kingdom. Galatians 5 speaks of the fruit of the Spirit, which includes love, joy, peace, and more, reinforcing the notion that true fruitfulness captures the essence of what it means to walk by the Spirit. Thus, spiritual fruitfulness is not optional; it is the expected outcome of a genuine faith that arises from a vital union with Christ.
