Why is spiritual illumination necessary for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Spiritual illumination is essential for recognizing Christ as Savior and appropriating the living water He offers (John 4:10).

Spiritual illumination is critical because it allows individuals to see beyond their natural understanding and recognize Jesus as the true source of life and satisfaction. In John 4:10, Jesus emphasizes that this understanding is a divine gift; without it, people remain blind to their spiritual needs and the provision made by Christ. Paul also notes in 2 Corinthians 4 that only God can shine light into our hearts to reveal His glory in Christ. Therefore, without this spiritual insight, one cannot come to Jesus for the satisfaction of their soul thirst. It is through this illumination that individuals acknowledge their sin and turn to Him in faith.
