Why is substitution important in salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Substitution is crucial because it reflects how Christ took our place to bear the penalty for our sins.

The concept of substitution is foundational to understanding salvation in the Reformed tradition. As seen in Isaiah 61:3, through His substitutionary work, Jesus took upon Himself the burdens of sin and guilt that we could not bear. He stood in our place, satisfying God's justice so that we might be declared righteous. This doctrine emphasizes the grace of God, highlighting that only through Christ's obedience and sacrifice can we be reconciled to the Father. Our joy, therefore, comes from knowing we are forgiven and accepted, fully relying on His righteousness rather than our own.
