Why is suffering necessary for believers?

Answered in 1 source

Suffering is a part of the Christian experience as it draws us closer to Christ and refines our faith.

Suffering is not only a consequence of living in a fallen world but also a purposeful aspect of the believer's life. According to 1 Peter 1:13-14, believers might face trials and sufferings, especially in relation to the gospel's truths. This suffering mirrors the suffering of Christ and serves to deepen our reliance on Him. Peter emphasizes that we suffer not as those without hope but in the context of faith, which is being tested and refined like gold (1 Peter 1:7). The purpose behind suffering helps to purify our souls and prepare us to partake in Christ's holiness, ultimately resulting in greater love for one another and glorifying God through our perseverance.
