Why is thanksgiving essential for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Thanksgiving is essential for Christians because it acknowledges God's goodness and mercy in Christ, sustaining their faith and joy.

Thanksgiving is central to the Christian life as it acknowledges God’s goodness. From Nehemiah’s dedication of the wall, where much thanksgiving was highlighted, to 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, which commands us to rejoice always and give thanks in everything, we learn that gratitude is the will of God for us. This attitude of thankfulness nurtures a spirit of joy and reminds believers of their reliance on God's grace. Furthermore, Colossians 3:15 encourages believers to let the peace of God rule in their hearts while being thankful. Such gratitude fosters community and encourages believers to praise God as they reflect on His countless blessings. In essence, thanksgiving not only uplifts individual believers but strengthens the body of Christ collectively.
