Why is the application of Christ's blood necessary?

Answered in 1 source

The application of Christ's blood is necessary to signify faith in His redemptive work for salvation from God's judgment.

The necessity of applying Christ's blood is illustrated in the Passover event, where the Israelites had to apply the blood of the lamb to their doorposts. This act symbolized their faith and obedience to God's command. Similarly, in the New Testament, believers must not only recognize Christ's work on the cross but also actively believe and trust in that work for their salvation. The application of His blood signifies that we are covered by His sacrifice, providing assurance against the impending judgment of God. Just as the Israelites could not simply kill the lamb but had to apply the blood for it to be of effect, Christians today must have a personal, living faith in Christ's atoning work to be saved and protected from eternal destruction.
