Why is the authority of Scripture important for understanding salvation?

Answered in 1 source

The authority of Scripture is vital as it is the only reliable source of truth regarding salvation and eternal life (2 Timothy 3:16).

Scripture's authority is paramount in matters of faith and salvation because it claims to be inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16). This means that all Scripture is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. Without the Bible, we have no standard by which to measure goodness, righteousness, or how to attain salvation. Human thoughts and opinions can be misleading and unreliable, thus making the written Word the only objective source for understanding God's will regarding eternal life. The acknowledgment of Scripture as God's Word guards against false teachings and provides assurance of the truth of the gospel.
