Why is the change from the Levitical priesthood to Christ's priesthood important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

The change is crucial because it signifies the end of the law's requirements and the establishment of a new covenant in Christ.

The transition from the Levitical priesthood to Christ's priesthood is vital for Christians as it signifies a fundamental change in worship and relationship with God. The Law, represented by the Levitical priesthood, was a guardian intended to lead us to Christ but could never bring about true justification or salvation. With Christ, we have a better covenant, established on better promises. His priestly work has obliterated the need for the old ceremonial law, allowing believers to draw near to God through Him, thus fulfilling the ultimate purpose of the Levitical system in pointing to Jesus.
