Why is the concept of a great high priest important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

The great high priest is crucial because He offers perfect mediation between God and humanity.

The importance of having a great high priest lies in our access to God through Christ. Hebrews 5 describes Jesus as not only our high priest but also as one who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses because He was fully human and experienced our trials. This means that He is a compassionate intercessor who understands our struggles (Hebrews 4:15). Furthermore, through His one-time sacrifice, Jesus ensures that we are able to approach the throne of grace with confidence, obtaining mercy and help in our times of need (Hebrews 4:16). Without Christ’s role as high priest, we would have no hope of reconciliation with God.
