Why is the concept of a withered hand important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

The withered hand represents human impotence to effect salvation and the need for divine intervention through Christ.

The healing of the man with the withered hand serves as a powerful illustration of humanity's spiritual condition. Just as the man's hand was withered and powerless, so too are all humanity's efforts at earning salvation ultimately ineffective. This condition illustrates the need for Christ to intervene, as He alone restores life and grants true salvation. The command to stretch forth the hand emphasizes the response of faith; when God calls, those who recognize their need will respond. Thus, the story encapsulates the sovereign grace of God and the necessity for believers to rely wholly on Him for salvation, as our own abilities are without merit in the spiritual realm.
