Why is the concept of assurance of salvation important for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Assurance of salvation provides comfort and security in God's promises and protects against doubt.

The assurance of salvation is crucial for Christians as it serves as the protective 'helmet' against doubts and attacks from the enemy. When believers are confident in their salvation, they can withstand the fiery darts of doubt that Satan throws their way (Ephesians 6:16). This confidence is rooted in the knowledge that salvation is entirely God's work, upheld by His grace and mercy (Titus 3:5). Knowing that they are secure in Christ enables believers to live boldly for Him, worship authentically, and share the Gospel without fear. As Romans 8:1 states, 'There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,' highlighting the believer's secure position.
