Why is the concept of being blinded to self important in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Being blinded to one’s own self-righteousness allows us to see Christ clearly and recognize our need for Him (Acts 22:11).

In Acts 22:11, Paul describes being blinded to his own merit when confronted with the glory of Christ. This concept is crucial in Christianity as it emphasizes our inability to save ourselves through good works or ethics. By being made aware of our utter spiritual deadness and incapacity, we are led to rely solely on Christ's righteousness and mercy. True faith begins when we are stripped of self-confidence and brought to a point of total dependence on God’s grace in Christ.
