Why is the concept of biblical theology important for understanding scripture?

Answered in 1 source

Biblical theology helps us to understand the overarching narrative of scripture as centered on Christ.

Biblical theology is fundamentally about understanding history and scripture from the perspective of God's redemptive plan centered on Jesus Christ. It emphasizes that all of scripture ultimately points to Christ as the culmination of God's promises and purposes. By recognizing that every part of the Bible contributes to the single narrative about Christ, believers gain a coherent understanding of scripture and its applications to their lives. This becomes especially significant when interpreting difficult passages or concepts; without this Christocentric lens, parts of the Bible may seem disjointed or irrelevant.
