Why is the concept of legal death important for Christians?

Understanding legal death is crucial, as it illustrates the state of all humanity under the curse of sin—condemned and unable to achieve righteousness. As described in Romans 5:12, by Adam’s disobedience sin entered the world, and consequently, all men died legally in Adam. This emphasizes the necessity of Christ's atoning sacrifice, who, as the last Adam, represented His people, satisfying the demands of justice and granting them life. Thus, recognizing our legal death strengthens our appreciation for the grace received through Christ, who delivers us from condemnation.
