Why is the concept of looking to Christ important for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Looking to Christ signifies faith in His atoning sacrifice, which assures eternal life for believers.

The act of looking to Christ as the brazen serpent is crucial for Christians as it embodies the essence of faith in the gospel. Just as the Israelites were instructed to look upon the serpent of brass to be healed from their physical afflictions, so Christians are called to look to Christ for spiritual healing and eternal life (John 3:15). This 'looking' demands trust in Him alone, not in our actions or rituals. Hebrews 12:2 encourages believers to fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. Only through this faith can one experience the grace of salvation, which is a direct result of God’s merciful initiative rather than human effort. Hence, the importance of looking to Christ rests in its alignment with the biblical understanding of faith as the means to receive God’s grace.
