Why is the concept of spiritual sustenance important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Spiritual sustenance is vital for Christians as it nourishes our faith and enables us to resist the temptations of the world.

The importance of spiritual sustenance for Christians cannot be overstated. In Daniel 1, the distinction between consuming the king's meat versus pulse and water highlights the necessity of feeding on that which is life-giving rather than that which is deadening. Just as Daniel and his companions chose a diet aligned with their commitment to God, Christians must seek spiritual nourishment through prayer, meditation on Scripture, and fellowship with other believers. As John 6:35 says, 'Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”' This affirms that true sustenance comes from Christ, the living Word. Without engaging with the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, we endanger our capacity to thrive spiritually in an increasingly hostile world.
